Rules for Cabin Scooters
Cabin Scooter Classification
Cabin scooters are often referred to as small electric vehicles that can resemble a small car.
Driver requirements
- No Driver's License Requirements: If the passenger scooter is classified as a "small moped" (30-moped), a driving license is typically not required in Denmark for the driver over the age of 18. For those under the age of 18, a moped driving license is required.
Speed limits
- Maximum speed for cabin scooters without a driver's license: 30 km/h.
Registration and Insurance Requirements
- Cabin scooters must be registered as a small moped and insured with liability insurance.
Road Use
- Scooters must follow the same rules as bicycles or mopeds and use bike lanes if available.
Equipment requirements
- Must be equipped with lights, reflectors and a warning light.
Overview of Rules for Cabin Scooters in Denmark
Cabin scooter 30 km/h:
- Speed: Max. 30 km/h.
- Traffic rules: Follows the rules for mopeds, primarily on bike paths.
- Driving license: People born before January 1, 1995 do not need a driver's license; people born after must have a driver's license for a small moped, car or motorcycle.
- Registration: Must be registered as a small moped with a yellow license plate, especially if factory new after July 1, 2006.
- Light: Low beam is required.
- Helmet and harness: Not mandatory.
- Passengers: Allowed if there is a passenger seat.
- Parking rules: May not be parked on sidewalks, cycle paths or footpaths. Can be parked in regular car parking spaces.
Cabin scooter 45 km/h:
- Speed: Max. 45 km/h.
- Traffic rules: Follows car rules. Must drive on the roadway, may not drive on motorways or expressways.
- Driving license: Requires a driving license for a car or large moped.
- Registration: Must be registered as a car.
- Parking rules: May be parked in regular car parking spaces.
General Rules
- Cannot be parked on sidewalks, bike paths or footpaths.
- Must follow applicable traffic rules for either a moped or a car, depending on speed.
